OASIS Symposium – TC lightning rounds

As the name suggests, a brief overview of the work in progress by a number of OASIS technical committees (4 minutes each – I can’t type that fast so won’t manage to capture the main points):

OASIS Biometric Identity Assurance Services (BIAS) Integration TC

Emergency Management TC
including work on the latest version of the Common Alerting Protocol

Enterprise Key Management Infrastructure (EKMI) Technical Committee including implementation, operations and audit guidelines

Public Key Infrastructure Adoption (PKIA) TC

Open Building Information Exchange (oBIX) TC

Customer Information Quality (CIQ) TC

Semantic Execution Environment TC

Solution Deployment Descriptor (SDD) TC

Unstructured Operation Markup Language (UOML) TC

Web Services Business Process Execution Language (WSBPEL) TC

Web Services Quality Model TC

Web Services Transaction (WS-TX) TC

The diversity of the consortium’s work is truly impressive but also occasionally a source ofworry: as with many standards organisations, OASIS does face a practical problem of keeping oversight of the sprawl of specifications coming out and in particular the relations, dependencies and opportunities for collaboration between them. A group of us tried a few years ago to interest OASIS in a “Topic Map” that would provide such a view but despite effort and work, it didn’t come to pass. Maybe it was an idea too soon. Worth another shot today?
