Slashdot | UN Wants To Regulate Internet

Slashdot | UN Wants To Regulate Internet: surely missing the point. The main issue is that ICANN, a US-based not-for-profit organisation is no longer “trusted” by many to manage the Internet.

If the current role and functions of ICANN are simply transferred under the authority of the UN, with the same powers and functions, what is the problem? Why this obfuscation about the “UN wanting to regulate the Internet”? It is already regulated. The question is now: by whom?
