In his otherwise eloquent State of Union Address, President Obama stated that the USA was
the nation that put cars in driveways and computers in offices; the nation of Edison and the Wright brothers; of Google and Facebook
Are Google and Facebook really the best and most representative examples of their breed? What about Apple? Microsoft? IBM? Cisco? What makes those two stand out, particularly at a juncture when concerns about their (lack of) privacy policies are coming under increasing scrutiny. It doesn’t make sense.
